Stellaractive is excited to announce our fourth year of supporting non-profits through our Season of Giving initiative! This year, for the Season of Giving, our team of eight was each given $500 to donate to organizations they are passionate about.
With the holidays approaching, it’s an excellent time for us to reflect on our position and use our platform to promote those working to better the lives of others and improve the world we live in. This year features many great organizations with incredible causes.

Equitable Giving Circle

Equitable Giving Circle is an organization founded and led by black women aiming to inspire and create economic empowerment through action and engagement in their communities.
I chose this organization because…
I’ve been a fan of their mission since the organization’s inception. By addressing glaring inequities created by years of institutional bias, people like those at Equitable Giving Circle can create real, positive change for Portland’s black and indigenous communities.
Unite Oregon
Donation: $250

Unite Oregon is grounded in the belief that organizing people who are suffering from oppression have the greatest potential to affect the root causes of economic, political, and social injustice. They work across Oregon to build a unified intercultural movement for justice.
I chose this organization because…
They put an emphasis on intercultural inclusion and commitment to helping build up their communities through justice, equity, and safety. Organizations like Unite Oregon can catalyze the systemic change necessary to create equality across Oregon’s communities.
Impact NW
Donation: $250
About the non-profit
Their mission is to prevent homelessness by partnering with people as they navigate their journey to stability and opportunity. One health crisis, emergency room visit, or a lost job can land a family in a shelter or a tent. Impact NW supports people before it’s too late in two ways: They stabilize by offering services such as rent, utility, and other supports. And we strengthen by offering job training, parenting support, and opportunities for children.
I chose this organization because…
We need affordable housing and livable wages, but until that happens, many people are at risk of becoming homeless. Impact NW helps families maintain permanent housing, among many other excellent services.
Girls Build

Girls Build inspires curiosity and confidence in girls through the world of building. In 2023, Girls Build taught over 250 eight- to fifteen-year-old Portland girls how to build, measure, and think with confidence. Their classes and camps open doors to living-wage careers in the building trades and teach basic building skills to manage life.
I chose this organization because…
I chose Girls Build because I feel strongly about supporting girls and giving them confidence in traditionally male-dominated skills. Excluding girls limits their career opportunities, and these skills are vital to succeeding at any work involving your hands.
Raphael House of Portland

Raphael House of Portland is a non-profit organization deeply committed to offering support to survivors of domestic violence and their families. With a heart-driven mission, they engage the community in non-violent living through advocacy, education, and community outreach.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) cares for people affected by conflict, disease outbreaks, natural and human-made disasters, and exclusion from health care in more than 70 countries.
I chose this organization because…
Doctors Without Borders works to provide medical care to those in need, no matter the geographical location or political affiliation, and with the current war on Palestinians in Gaza, supporting aid for affected civilians is essential to me. All violent atrocities are condemnable, but those committed against those trapped in the apartheid state of Gaza and the West Bank need specific attention right now. My thoughts go to all those affected in the area.
Portland People's Outreach Program

PPOP’s mission is to reduce harms associated with drug use and life on the street while building community, connecting those experiencing addiction to various levels of care, and empowering people to seek further positive change.
I chose this organization because…
Portland People’s Outreach Project’s goal of getting life-saving aid to those living outside the margins and struggling with substance abuse creates actual harm reduction for those whom society overlooks the most. Treating the unhoused and addicted people as people and not statistics builds a stronger community as a whole and can lead those folks toward safety and recovery.
Oregon Wild

Oregon Wild works to protect and restore Oregon’s wildlands, wildlife, and waters to preserve the natural beauty of our state for future generations.
I chose this organization because…
Their mission aligns with my goals of protecting and restoring the wilds for generations to come. I appreciate Oregon Wild’s approach to advocacy, combining education, public communications, direct lobbying, grassroots activism, and collaboration with allied groups, ensuring an effective conservation strategy I believe in.
WeShine

Equitable access to a neutral catalog of information supported by verifiable primary sources is more important than ever. Also, being able to look up random factoids to settle arguments is the bedrock of any just society.

SCRAP is a donation-based creative reuse store and donation center in Portland. You can find all kinds of reused arts and crafts materials, including school, office, and party supplies. SCRAP also provides various educational opportunities, and its mission is to inspire environmentally sustainable behavior.

It’s a hub for inspiration — a treasure trove for artists, crafters, and DIY-ers —that offers endless possibilities for creative expression. In a world grappling with the environmental effects of mass production and waste, SCRAP redirects materials from landfills to give them new life. I believe in and support the organization’s vision of a more sustainable, creative world in which individuals are empowered to create, innovate, and reimagine the world around them.
ReClaim It by Cracked Pots

ReClaim It is a nonprofit retail store that salvages materials for artists, neighbors, and DIYers to reuse, repair, and reimagine. They rescue thrown-away items from the Metro Central Transfer Station (the “dump”!) to prevent them from ending up in the landfill.

They reduce the strain on our planet’s resources and serve as a tangible reminder of the potential beauty and functionality that lie within items deemed as waste. ReClaim It is not just a store; it’s a testament to the power of community-driven efforts to combat the throwaway culture. It fosters a sense of responsibility and mindfulness, urging individuals to reconsider the lifecycle of their possessions and contribute to a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.

Many people in remote locations on Earth have limited or no access to medical attention. I admire that the organization’s goal is to do no harm and observe strict neutrality and impartiality in the name of universal medical ethics. They are committed to providing the highest quality medical care possible—no matter where they work. Those who are risking their own lives to save others are worth any support we can give them.
Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA)

Myasthenia Gravis is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disorder that is characterized by weakness of the voluntary muscle groups. People with myasthenia often suffer profound, debilitating physical symptoms such as muscle weakness or loss of complete muscle control that may impact a person’s ability to chew, swallow, smile, walk, breathe or perform essential everyday functions. The Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America is the largest and leading patient advocacy organization solely dedicated to finding a cure for Myasthenia Gravis, raising awareness, and improving the lives of those diagnosed.
I chose this organization because…
MG has changed my life tremendously since being diagnosed in 2016. Due to the rare nature of the disease, there is a lack of research on the cause, cures, or how to manage living with the condition. The MGFA is doing their part to enhance lives and spearhead research so we can live in a world without MG.
